1. My new favorite smoothie recipe:

handful of green grapes

small handful of spinach

smaller handful of kale

frozen banana

juice from half of a lime

little bitta water

instructions:

blend. drink.

It’s yummier than it sounds. The secret is in the lime.

2. My hip got worse. Now I am on a round of steroids and back on crutches. Here’s some advice: when you have to go on steroids for any reason… DO NOT GOOGLE “Side effects of steroids.” Just …don’t.  So I’m hopeful while at the same time paranoid. Hence #1.  I’m also diligently taking my fish oil. I’m so frustrated right now but also am hoping this is the bend before the stretch of track when the light at the end of the tunnel comes into sight. Merry Christmas to me!

3. Random Christmas thoughts:

-I LOVE AMAZON.

-The Muppets Christmas Carol is one of my favorite versions. The writers pulled so many of Dickens actual phrases from the book but still manage to keep it hilarious.

-As part of our family night on Monday we had a little chat about the Wise men who came to see Jesus. We talked about their sacrifice and how they didn’t come to Jesus seeking blessings, they came to give gifts. We talked about the type of “gifts” we could give that would make Jesus happy. Then today – I woke up to Thomas rushing to give me my crutches.  He tried so hard all day to make sure I had them when I was getting up. And he set the table. And he gave me hugs without making gagging noises. And all of that makes me want to cry.

-I started out doing an advent calendar. We did two days and then no more. Fail. So I just told the boys we’d think of something fun and Christmas to do each day (minus the surprise). So far so good. (Mostly because hot cocoa is their favorite thing in the world, so I can get away with “Hot cocoa after school!” and they all run around jumping up and down totally excited.)

4. A conversation between Thomas and his best friend overheard from the backseat of the car after kindergarten:

Thomas: “Why are little girls such FANS of little boys??”

friend: “I know! Why do they love us so much they want to chase us? I mean, Am I really that cute?”

Thomas: “Dude. Hate to tell you this but yes. you are handsome. …{sigh} …if only we weren’t so handsome. Then maybe they’d stop chasing us!”

5. We had a lovely Thanksgiving we Pete and Jeanne and Halle this year. Seth and Thomas LOVED the little birdies. Good times.

I took exactly ONE picture:

oh wait. the birdies.

6. We had cousin Connor over the day before Thanksgiving. Then we begged him to come back Thanksgiving morning.

Why? Because he is awesome.

That is him being tortured by all four. (It looks a lot like playing.)

He also helped us moved furniture and a ton more boxes. Everyone needs a nephew like that!

7. Aaron took the boys on a big adventurous hike down into the gulley the day after Thanksgiving.

8. Seth telling Thomas, “NOW LISTEN TO ME. I AM GOING TO TEACH YOU HOW TO FIGHT!”

Thomas refused to listen because he was a robot.

and in case you’re wondering, yes. Seth is STILL not wearing clothes.

14. Merry Christmas to you! Or whatever you celebrate! Thank you for stopping in to read (even if it is an obligatory email prod). I appreciate being able to pop in here and share total randomness with friends and family. Thanks for your support. It means a lot during a time when I don’t really have many friends yet at our new place. (I’m working on it though!)

15. If this post seemed overly weird? I blame the steroids.

  1. Oh my gosh. You should have a secret camera in your house that broadcasts online. You’d be famous and rich and my favorite show ever!

Or, maybe you could rent Thomas and Seth out as entertainment for parties.

Invite someone to lunch. No one is offended to be asked to lunch and it’s great fun. That’s how I made friends here and it was much more effective than sitting in my house feeling lonely and taking 6 years to make friends like I did at our last residence.

  2. So sorry you are not feeling well Katie. I hope that the steroids help. The pictures of your home remind me a lot of ours. I love the Thomas comments though. They remind me of my Thomas in so many ways.

  3. Thank you for this wonderful Christmas Card! You’re way ahead of me in that department.

My favorite line on this post…..Thomas: “Dude. Hate to tell you this but yes. you are handsome. …{sigh} …if only we weren’t so handsome. Then maybe they’d stop chasing us!” LOVE IT!! LOVE HIM! LOVE EACH ONE OF THOSE DEAR, SWEET, CRAZY, GOOD BOYS!

  4. I love reading your blog. Always. I also love amazon (prime membership!). And target (red card!). And kohls (a thousand percent off!). Between the 3, I think I ordered all of Christmas online. And it steadily shows up on my porch. :) I love your amazing crazy boys. And cousin Connor. His youtube channel makes us laugh out load all the time. And your smoothie recipe. Hmm. No bueno. I think the steroids are affecting your taste buds. Or maybe the taste of “not dying” conceals the kale??? Hope you’re feeling better soon. Merry Christmas! (Send me your new address)

    • I am not lying. It tastes good. Haters gonna hate.

  5. “Dude. Hate to tell you this but yes. you are handsome. …{sigh} …if only we weren’t so handsome.”
    bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha
    still chuckling over that.

Charlotte would like to defend the girls’ honor, and reports that they most certainly do not chase boys because they love them. No sir. Although, we all know that Ruby would disagree with that ;)

So sorry to hear that your hip is still bothering you so much! I hope that you are indeed right around the corner from seeing that light at the end of the tunnel.

  6. The Muppet Christmas Carol really is my favorite version! It’s so fantastic. And that kindergartener conversation was hilarious!

  7. Keep the email prods coming. We love reading this blog! Thanks for supporting that nephew of yours. We miss him and we’re glad he gets tackled with love every now and again.

    • I am so excited for this weekend for all of you!!

  8. Overly weird post? You’re funny. It was an awesomely real “day in the life” kind of post…except it took place over a period of weeks, so I should call it “WEEKS in the life” of Katie-steroid-laden-Miller. I love that your life is normalcy in non-normal ways (that actually are completely normal in a household of boys!!), like wearing end tables and decapitating small children (which, in my opinion is probably THE coolest thing ever in my life today.)

Thinking of you and those blasted crutches. Good thing Thomas is there, phew.

    • Funny actually, When I typed the overly weird thing, I had a big paragraph about you (!) Lanette. And how you are actaully Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec. But then I realized that no one in my life that knows you, ALSO knows that show and waah. My comparison would go unvalidated. (It was a big long paragraph too.)

  9. “dude, if only we weren’t so handsome!!” (Can you just picture Aaron and Tim as little boys having that conversation?? uhm, yeah.) And what is the steriod fish oil link?? I have to take steriods for my thyroid. I should look into that (and learn how to spell steroid, apparently)

    • no fish oil/steriod link. I think it’s more a probiotic thing. Although if you Google it, I bet you could find one…
That’s just me being paranoid. FISH OIL WILL SAVE THE DAY.

  10. To all: I wish I could thumbs up everyone’s comments like I can on FB. They’re all making me laugh.

Dying here…Please always carry a hidden video camera to get this stuff recorded. You would SO TOTALLY win on “America’s Funniest Videos.”

That last photo of Seth as “or…this…” was so funny.

  12. I stalk your blog more than I comment, but I love your real life stories and your boys make me laugh out loud. Hope you are feeling better soon and Merry Christmas!

  13. I am so late visiting. Thanks for all the laughs. Sorry about the hip.

  14. Katie – I’m so sorry to hear about your continuing struggles with your hip! I think there is nothing more frustrating than being our age and feeling like your body is failing you – AUGH! Having spent a long time with oral steroids and steroid injections prior to having my spine turned into plastic and titanium, my unsolicited advice to you is: don’t worry about the side effects, just focus on being sure they are actually working. I’m partial to the injections over the pills – but the injections are also intense too. I’m going to add you to my daily prayers that an answer and healing will come to you soon and you can get back to your life without chronic pain.

  15. I especially loved the backseat conversation between Thomas and his friend. Ya just can’t make this stuff up!!

  16. Oh, and that was fun to read about baby Ivy. :-)
